59 Million dloads and counting!
The question I wish to raise here is how accurate do you think that these figures actually are?
Sure Firefox has been successful and is probably one of the best browsers out there at the moment in terms of usability and security, but something made me think about these figures recently. Since the release of 1.0 there has been the release of security releases/extensions of 1.0.1 upto 1.0.4.
Now for each upgrade I have been forced through the inadequacy of the upgrade system built into the main firefox program to download the WHOLE of the new version, all 4.7Mb of it. Imagine if there were 10 million upgrades done in this way then surely this would look like 10 million more people had dloaded firefox, yet in reality it would just be upgrades that had been done.
I'm not saying here that the number of users are not going up, I'm just questioning the method by which the number of downloads are recorded. Perhaps I'm completely wrong here and that they don't log any dloads coming from a firefox upgrade box as being as new dload.
Perhaps those more informed than myself can correct me on this? Feel free to comment!
